The Silent Saboteur: When Your Server Starts Whispering "Lag"
My first suspect in any slow website situation is always the backend. It's the engine, right? If the engine's sputtering, the whole car grinds to a halt. In this client's case, the initial signs were subtle. Page load times were creeping up, and some API calls were timing out intermittently.
I dove into the server logs, specifically the application logs. What I found wasn't a smoking gun, but a pile of smoldering embers. Lots of 504 Gateway Timeout errors, especially during peak hours.
